Hollyhock weevil (Rhopalapion longirostre). These 3- to 4-mm-sized beetles belong unmistakably to the weevils with their long snouts. The beetle is an exotic species and is native to the southern regions of Europe and Asia. The Hollyhock weevil lives on and off hollyhocks. They feed on the soft parts of the plant’s leaves, flowers and seeds. The damage consists of holes and spots with a black edge on the leaves and flowers.
The Hollyhock is not bothered by the Hollyhock weevil.
The beetle overwinters in the seeds and in the leaf layer around the Hollyhock.
