Nematodes (roundworms) control various pests.
- Biopesticide
Nematodes (roundworms) – various pests can be controlled with an insect-parasitic nematode. Many nematodes are plant-parasitic and cause considerable damage in agriculture and vegetable gardens. However, an insect-parasitic nematode lives on the larvae of insects. For example, ants, caterpillars, thrips and leafminers can be controlled with the nematode Steinernema feltia and snails and chafer grubs with hermaphroditia and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora. The nematode Steinernema carpocapsae preys on, among other things, leatherettes, the larva of the crane fly and codling moths.
Nematodes are commercially available.
