Potato bruising. Under the skin, there appear to be blue discolorations that need to be cut away. Potato bruising is caused during harvesting where potatoes are damaged by dumping, bumping or crushing. Susceptibility to Potato bruising starts from + 12ºC and increases as the temperature gets lower.
Potassium deficiency makes potatoes more susceptible to Potato bruising.

Control

Damage to potatoes is irreversible.

Prevention

Be careful when harvesting: never throw the potatoes. Harvest at temperatures above 12ºC and harvest at temperatures below 12ºC (autumn), preferably in the afternoon when the worst of the cold has passed.
