Glue crust fungus (Hymenochaete corrugata). This fungus belongs to the Family of crusts (Stereaceae) and is found in deciduous forests (rare). This fungus connects intersecting branches by growing on both surfaces to ‘glue’ the branches together. In this way, the fungus spreads from branch to branch; one of many techniques the fungus uses to multiply. The dead branches remain in the tree. The fungus grows on dead wood of broad-leaved deciduous trees such as willow and hazel.
The fungus occurs in Europe in deciduous forests in the temperate zone and in regions with ample rainfall. In England and Ireland, the fungus is common; in Europe, it is less commonly found. The fungus grows in summer and fall.
