Bean leafroll virus (BLRV) is a viral disease that causes yellowing of leaves and stems, often starting at the top of the leaf. The virus is spread by the pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum). The aphids hibernate on alfalfa and swarm out starting in May. The nanovirus that causes Bean leafroll virus takes only 15 minutes to infect a crop. After +20 days, the first symptoms become visible on leaf or stem.
The parasitoid wasp (Aphidius ervi) is a natural enemy of the pea aphid.
