Fire blight is a very contagious plant disease.

Fire blight (Erwinia amylovora). Infectious plant disease and a threat to fruit production. Warm, sweltering weather can trigger an epidemic. Plants and trees of the rose family (Rosaceae) are susceptible. The disease is spread by wind, rain, bees, birds and insects.

- Pear tree
- Hawthorn
- Apple
- Rowan
- Firethorn
- Photinia
- Cotoneaster
Control
Once infested, pruning away the diseased parts is necessary. Affected parts should be destroyed (burned). Disinfect tools (alcohol).
Prevention
Remove affected areas as soon as possible, work with clean disinfected material (alcohol) and destroy affected parts.
