The fungus causes Armillaria root rot<\/a> and White rot<\/a>. Between the bark and the wood behind the bark, there is white fungal growth that turns into root-like fungal threads as time progresses. The affected wood decays, making the tree susceptible to windthrow<\/abbr>. In autumn, brown mushrooms form at the base of the tree.
\nThe honey fungus is edible after thorough cooking.<\/p>\n
